About The Daily African Lens
The Daily African Lens is an AI intelligence publication covering developments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science across the 54 African Union member states. It is published by 1906 Reblabs, a South African media and technology project, and operates through two series:
- Daily African Lens (DAL) — published every morning at 6:00 AM SAST, ranking up to 20 items of continental AI significance.
- AI Weekly Intelligence (AIW) — a weekly synthesis published every Tuesday, covering executive summaries, market signals, strategic insights, and risk analysis.
This archive is hosted at 1906reblabs.github.io/weekly-ai-lens and the newsletter is distributed via Substack at simphiwemlotshwa.substack.com. These terms govern both.
Agreement by use
By accessing this archive, reading any edition, subscribing to the newsletter, or otherwise engaging with any content published under The Daily African Lens name, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use in full.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you should discontinue use of the publication immediately. Access to the archive is provided free of charge; that access is conditional on compliance with these terms.
These terms apply to: the GitHub Pages archive, all daily editions (DAL series), all AI Weekly Intelligence reports (AIW series), and any content shared or reproduced from this publication with attribution.
Ownership of content
All editorial content published by The Daily African Lens — including edition summaries, weekly intelligence reports, analysis, signal rankings, strategic insights, second-order effect commentary, and structural frameworks — is original work created by 1906 Reblabs and is protected by South African copyright law and applicable international copyright conventions.
The publication's editorial output is produced using an agentic workflow. Notwithstanding the use of AI-assisted tooling in production, the editorial framing, analytical structure, selection criteria, source tier methodology, and published output constitute original editorial work in which 1906 Reblabs holds copyright.
Important distinction: The facts and public information covered in our editions are not owned by us. Our ownership extends only to our original expression, analysis, synthesis, rankings, and editorial commentary — not to the underlying news events, institutional announcements, or research findings we report on.
What you may and may not do with our content
We publish in the spirit of open intelligence on African AI. Non-commercial redistribution with proper attribution is permitted. Commercial use and verbatim reproduction without permission are not.
For permissions beyond those listed above — including syndication, commercial licensing, bulk reproduction, or AI training licences — contact us using the details in Section 12.
Our editorial standards and independence
The Daily African Lens operates with full editorial independence. Our coverage decisions, signal rankings, and analytical positions are not influenced by commercial relationships, advertising, sponsorship, or promotional arrangements. We do not accept payment for coverage placement, positive framing, or editorial positioning of any kind.
Our source tier methodology — Tier 1 (Reuters, BBC, major wire services), Tier 2 (specialist African tech media including TechCabal and ITWeb), Tier 3 (institutional and government sources), Tier 4 (academic and research publications) — is applied consistently across all editions. Full methodology is described on our Methodology page.
Editorial analysis represents the judgement of The Daily African Lens intelligence desk. Readers who disagree with our analysis or believe we have made a factual error are encouraged to contact us; see the corrections policy in Section 07.
Nature of our intelligence reporting
This publication does not constitute financial, investment, legal, regulatory, or professional advice of any kind. Nothing published in The Daily African Lens — including market signals, investment opportunity flags, risk assessments, or strategic insights — should be relied upon as the basis for any financial, business, or legal decision.
Our AI Weekly Intelligence reports include sections titled "Opportunities" and "Risks." These sections represent editorial intelligence analysis for informational purposes only. They are not investment recommendations, financial forecasts, or legal opinions. The signals, assessments, and strategic observations we publish reflect publicly available information interpreted through our editorial framework — they are not the output of regulated financial analysis.
Readers making investment, business, or regulatory decisions should seek advice from qualified professionals with knowledge of their specific circumstances. The Daily African Lens accepts no responsibility for decisions made on the basis of our editorial content.
Our commitment to accuracy
We make every effort to ensure that the factual information in our editions is accurate at the time of publication. All sourced claims are drawn from our four-tier source hierarchy and are paraphrased in accordance with our editorial standards — we do not reproduce source material verbatim.
Despite our standards, errors can occur. Our corrections policy is as follows:
- Factual errors — where we have reported a fact incorrectly, we will publish a correction in the next available edition and update the relevant archived edition to note the correction.
- Analytical corrections — where our analysis is based on a factual misunderstanding, we will note the revised position in a subsequent edition.
- Source attribution errors — where we have incorrectly attributed information, we will correct the attribution in the archived version.
To submit a correction, contact us at the details in Section 12. Please include the edition reference number (e.g., DAL-026-088 or AIW-026-05), the specific claim in question, and evidence supporting the correction. We review all correction requests within 5 business days.
Limits on our responsibility
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, 1906 Reblabs and The Daily African Lens accept no liability for:

- Inaccuracies in information derived from third-party sources that we reported in good faith
- Interruption, suspension, or termination of access to the archive or newsletter
- Any content on third-party websites linked from our editions
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under South African law.
Links to external sources
Our editions and reports link extensively to external sources — news articles, institutional publications, government documents, and research papers. These links are provided for reference and reader convenience.
We do not endorse, control, or take responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or accuracy of any external website. The presence of a link in our content does not imply endorsement of the linked organisation or its positions. External links may become inactive over time; we do not systematically maintain or update links in archived editions.
Jurisdiction and dispute resolution
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these terms or your use of The Daily African Lens shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
If you are accessing this publication from outside South Africa, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws to the extent they apply. These terms do not purport to override mandatory consumer protection provisions applicable in your jurisdiction.
